Posted January 20, 2020 08:03:20The US is hiring more than 4,500 new jobs to help with freight infrastructure projects in 2019, the U.S. Department of Labor said in a release.
The US added about 4,800 jobs last year to support construction of the nation’s largest freight hub in Oklahoma City.
The US added another 3,500 jobs in January to support the construction of a freight hub on the Mexican border in San Diego.
More:The new jobs are mostly in Oklahoma and Texas, according to the Department of Transportation.
The agency said the new hires will add jobs that could have otherwise been lost because of Hurricane Harvey, a devastating flood that struck the U:The US lost nearly $2 billion in freight traffic last year because of Harvey, which damaged more than 5,000 bridges, highways and other structures in Texas and Oklahoma.
More stories from around the worldThe job openings in Oklahoma include construction of high-rise buildings in downtown Oklahoma City and construction of freight-truck bays and warehouses.
More than a dozen construction projects are also underway in the state.
