In a tweet on Monday, the Container Ship Co. said it would return to the port of Dover in southern England in a bid to recover a container that had fallen overboard while en route to Hong Kong.
The ship, which has a total length of more than 300 meters, was carrying 5,500 metric tons of cargo that had drifted into the port while en-route from Guangzhou to Hong Kong, the company said in a tweet.
A tug and tow boat, which will haul the cargo to a nearby pier, will be dispatched to recover the cargo.
The company said the ship’s captain, Mark O’Leary, had received “a strong report of a shipwreck.”
The container ship, named Harrier, is the largest cargo vessel to leave the US since the 2009 Tianjin Shipwreck, according to CNN.
